Department of Ophthalmology Inaugurates Advanced Diagnostic and Therapeutic Facilities for Eye Care
The Department of Ophthalmology at BGS Medical College and Hospital, a constituent institution of Adichunchanagiri University, reached a significant milestone in clinical excellence with the formal inauguration of its upgraded facilities titled Advances in Eye Care. Held on August 11, 2026, at the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department, the event showcased the institution’s ongoing commitment to integrating cutting edge healthcare technology with compassionate patient care and academic rigor.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Gangadhara K. S., Principal of BGS Medical College and Hospital, and Dr. Krishnamurthy V. R., Chief of Hospital, alongside Resident Medical Officer Dr. Pradeep. The leadership was joined by the distinguished faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology, led by Professor and Head of Department Dr. Gnanajyothi C. Bada. The collaborative presence of faculty members including Dr. Bharathi N, Dr. Spoorthy S., and several other specialists underscored the collective dedication of the department toward advancing ophthalmic sciences.
The newly unveiled facilities represent a substantial enhancement of the hospital’s diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities. The upgraded department now features four modern slit lamp microscopes equipped with dedicated unit chairs and vision charts. Furthermore, the integration of sophisticated diagnostic tools such as B scan ultrasonography, Optical Coherence Tomography, and Perimetry, alongside therapeutic advancements like Non Contact Tonometry, Nd YAG laser, and Panretinal Photocoagulation laser, positions the department at the forefront of specialized eye care. These additions are designed to facilitate comprehensive evaluation and management of complex ophthalmic conditions while significantly improving patient throughput and clinical outcomes.
The proceedings commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony and pooja, symbolizing an auspicious start for the enhanced clinical services. This was followed by a celebratory cake cutting ceremony involving the senior leadership and faculty members, fostering a spirit of institutional unity.
