World Suicide Prevention Day 2025 Observation at BGS Medical College & Hospital

At BGS Medical College and Hospital ,the Department of Psychiatry observed World Suicide Prevention Day on the 10th of September, 2025, with the theme “Changing the Narrative: Hope Through Action”. The programme focused on raising awareness, encouraging open dialogue, and empowering the community to work collectively towards suicide prevention.

The event was inaugurated by the respected Principal cum Dean Dr. K. S. Gangadhara and in charge Chief of Hospital Dr. Sheshagiri Rao, who emphasized the need for preventive strategies, compassion, and timely intervention in mental health care.

The highlight of the programme was the guest lecture by Dr. Ashwini N.V., Founder & Director of Muktha Foundation and CEO of Flourish Lifeschools, who delivered an inspiring session on the six steps under “WE CARE” for suicide prevention. Her talk gave practical insights on identifying warning signs, offering support, and creating safe spaces for conversations around mental health.

To further reinforce the message, a short movie titled “Zindagi Ki Talaash Mein” directed by the Digital Health Team was premiered. The film conveyed the importance of hope, timely help, and collective responsibility in preventing suicide.

A poster-making competition was organized by the department with 15 enthusiastic participants, out of which the best three entries were awarded cash prizes along with award certificate. This activity encouraged creativity and helped spread positive messages of resilience and hope.

Overall, the programme drew around 100 participants and was well-received by the students, faculty, and staff. The audience appreciated the combined engaging activities, creative competitions, and insightful sessions, describing the event as impactful, and thought provoking.
