BGS Medical College and Hospital Department of Community Medicine Conducts Community Outreach Health Camp at St. Ann’s High School
The Department of Community Medicine at BGS Medical College and Hospital recently conducted an expansive General Health Camp at St. Anns High School. Held on July 25, 2026, the initiative was strategically timed to coincide with the schools scheduled Parent Teacher Meeting, ensuring maximum reach and accessibility for the local community. By integrating clinical services into a familiar educational setting, the medical team sought to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and the public while fostering a culture of proactive health management.
The outreach program was characterized by a multidisciplinary approach, featuring specialists from several critical medical fields. Dedicated units from General Medicine, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology provided foundational health screenings and consultations. Furthermore, specialized care was made available through the participation of the Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Dentistry departments. This comprehensive clinical arrangement allowed for the simultaneous screening of various age groups and the identification of a broad spectrum of medical conditions ranging from vision impairment and dental hygiene issues to maternal health concerns.
A total of 150 individuals benefited from the professional consultations provided during the day. The demographic distribution of the attendees included 92 female and 58 male participants. A significant portion of the patient volume consisted of the pediatric and adolescent population, with 65 beneficiaries falling between the ages of 3 and 18 years. The remaining 85 beneficiaries represented the adult population, primarily composed of parents and school staff members. This diverse turnout highlights the importance of school based health initiatives in addressing the needs of both children and their guardians within a single session.
Preliminary findings from the camp emphasized the necessity of early detection and the role of preventive medicine in community settings. Patients requiring further investigation or specialized treatment were provided with referrals to the BGS MCH Nelamangala Clinic Unit to ensure continuity of care. The successful execution of this event underscores the commitment of the Department of Community Medicine to extending its expertise beyond hospital walls and contributing to the overall well being of the local population through education, diagnosis, and support.
