World Health Day Awareness Program -PHC Gopalapura-07th April 2025
The World Health Day Awareness Programme was organized by Dept of Community Medicine, BGSMCH on the occasion of World Health Day 2025, focusing on this year’s WHO theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures”. The aim was to raise awareness about the importance of maternal and newborn health, promote safe pregnancy, delivery, and postnatal care practices, empower healthcare workers and the community to take action.
After seeking permission to conduct the event at Primary Health Centre Gopalapura from Administrative Medical officer, Dr Sachin the programme was planned, relevant IEC was prepared and guest speakers were invited.
On 07.04.2025 with an audience of residents of Gopalapura, PHC staff & ASHA workers the programme began with a welcome address by Dr Chiranthan C M, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine & RHTC In charge BGSMCH, emphasizing the significance of World Health Day celebration, its history, importance and various themes of recent years along with a brief introduction of the guest speakers.
Dr. Gayathri Devi, Professor of Paediatrics, BGSMCH, delivered a session on newborn care, early childhood development, common neonatal health issues & focused on infant care breastfeeding, immunization schedules. She also Provided expert guidance during the interactive Q&A.
Dr. Preethu, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology spoke on safe pregnancy practices, danger signs in pregnancy, and importance of institutional delivery. She answered questions from expectant mothers & ASHA workers during the open session.
Dr Sindhu Shankar, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine reflected her focus on the “First 1000 Days of Life”—a critical period from conception to a child’s second birthday, foundational for long-term health. She also Explained how this window shapes brain development, immune system function, and long-term health.
Mr. Pradeep – Medical Social Worker, Department of Community Medicine, BGSMCH Discussed social determinants of maternal and newborn health highlighting the importance of nutrition in the health of expectant mothers, infants and children.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks, reaffirming our collective commitment to improving maternal and child health. The PHC team and community took a vital step forward in ensuring healthier beginnings and brighter futures for every mother and child.
