Cryostat Facility Inaugurated at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagaruru

Empowering Precision Diagnostics Through Advanced Technology

The Department of Pathology, BGS Medical College Hospital, inaugurated its Cryostat Facility on 15 June 2026 at the Central Laboratory, marking an important milestone in strengthening rapid diagnostic and surgical pathology services.

The facility was inaugurated by our Dean, Dr. Gangadhara K. S., and Chief of Hospital, Dr. Krishnamurthy V. R., under the divine blessings of Paramapoojya Jagadguru Padmabhushana Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji and Paramapoojya Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, Chancellor of Adichunchanagiri University. The event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Murali B. M. and was attended by Heads of Departments, faculty members, residents, nursing personnel, and laboratory staff.

A cryostat is a specialized instrument used to rapidly freeze tissue specimens and prepare thin sections for frozen section examination. This technique enables pathologists to provide a diagnosis within 15–20 minutes during surgery, thereby helping surgeons make timely and informed intraoperative decisions.

The facility will play a crucial role in the evaluation of tumours, assessment of surgical margins, detection of lymph node metastasis, and confirmation of tissue adequacy. By providing rapid pathological assessment, it contributes to improved patient management, reduces the need for repeat surgeries, and leads to better treatment outcomes.

In addition to enhancing patient care, the Cryostat Facility will strengthen undergraduate and postgraduate training by providing hands-on exposure to advanced diagnostic techniques and real-time clinicopathological decision-making.

The establishment of this facility reflects the Department of Pathology’s commitment to precision diagnostics, academic excellence, and high-quality healthcare delivery.
