BGS Medical College and Hospital Enhances Digital Health Infrastructure through HMIS and U-WIN Training

BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully conducted an intensive training programme focused on the Hospital Management Information System and the U WIN Portal on July 30, 2026. Held at the COH Meeting Hall, the initiative was designed to enhance the institutional capacity for digital health governance and streamline hospital administration through modern technological platforms. By integrating these systems, the institution aims to transition toward a more robust digital infrastructure that ensures data integrity and operational efficiency across all clinical and administrative departments.

The session was facilitated by expert trainers from the government health system who provided comprehensive orientation and practical guidance on the nuances of the HMIS and U WIN platforms. The primary objectives of the workshop included familiarizing the workforce with digital workflows, improving the accuracy of data entry, and clarifying department specific responsibilities. Through this collaboration with government health authorities, the hospital sought to align its internal reporting mechanisms with national digital health standards, thereby facilitating better service delivery and administrative oversight.

A multidisciplinary cohort of seventeen participants attended the training, comprising seven distinguished faculty members and ten specialized staff personnel. Represented departments included Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Medical Records Department, and the HMIS Office. Notable faculty participants such as Dr. Ramesh M., Dr. Aby Dany Varghese, and Dr. Mamatha were joined by administrative executives to ensure that the technical training translated into functional improvements across various hospital touchpoints. This diverse participation underscored the institutions commitment to a unified approach in managing patient information and public health data.

Under the coordination of Dr. Anu Mohandas, Associate Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, the programme received significant institutional support from Dr. Krishnamurthy V. R., Chief of Hospital, and Dr. Pradeep, RMO. The proceedings involved detailed demonstrations of digital workflows and interactive discussions where participants addressed specific operational challenges. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of maintaining timely and complete records, which are critical for effective hospital information management and statutory reporting.

The successful conclusion of this training programme marks a significant step forward in the digital transformation journey of BGS Medical College and Hospital. By equipping faculty and staff with the necessary skills to navigate the HMIS and U WIN portals, the institution is poised to improve its reporting efficiency and inter departmental coordination. This capacity building initiative reaffirms the commitment of BGS MCH to adopting evidence based digital practices that ultimately enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to the community.
