Departments of Pediatrics and Pathology Conduct Clinico-Pathological Meeting at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagaruru
The Department of Pediatrics in coordination with the Department of Pathology successfully hosted a Clinico Pathological Conference on July 30 2026 at the MEU Hall of BGS MCH. This academic session functioned as a vital interdisciplinary forum designed to correlate clinical presentations with pathological and histopathological findings. The primary objective of the gathering was to foster diagnostic precision and promote evidence based management strategies within the specialized fields of pediatric oncology and neuro oncology. By bridging the gap between clinical observation and laboratory diagnosis the conference provided a robust platform for professional development and intellectual exchange among the medical community.
The first segment of the conference focused on a case of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia presented by Dr. Srushty S from the Department of Pediatrics and Dr. Nikitha from the Department of Pathology. Dr. Srushty S reviewed the pediatric clinical presentation and noted the subtle early signs and diagnostic dilemmas inherent in pediatric onset cases. Dr. Nikitha followed with a detailed analysis of peripheral blood films and bone marrow aspirates emphasizing the diagnostic markers necessary to differentiate the condition from other leukemoid reactions. The session was moderated by Professor Dr. Gayathri Devi C who guided the discussion toward contemporary management strategies such as the use of targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitors and the monitoring of molecular responses in young patients.
The second half of the program addressed the complexities of Intracranial Ependymoma with clinical insights provided by Dr. Aditi Gaonkar and pathological correlations delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Praful Kumar C K. The presentation tracked the clinical trajectory of a patient with raised intracranial pressure and neurological deficits. Dr. Praful Kumar C K elaborated on histopathological features including cellular pseudorosettes and WHO grading which are critical for prognostic stratification. Professor Dr. Aby Dany Varghese moderated the multi specialty discussion while senior expert commentary was provided by Professor Dr. A. T. K. Rau and Professor Dr. Ramesh M. Their contributions highlighted the necessity of coordination between pediatricians and neurosurgeons particularly regarding surgical resectability and long term neurocognitive surveillance.
The event was graced by the presence of distinguished leadership including Dean cum Principal Dr. K. S. Gangadhara and Chief of Hospitals Dr. Krishna Murthy V.S. Other notable attendees included Residential Medical Officer Dr. Pradeep Kumar as well as Department Heads Dr. Ramesh M and Dr. Murali B M.
