BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy Hosts Faculty Development Programme on NCAHP Competency Based Curriculum

BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy recently organized a comprehensive two day Faculty Development Programme centered on the integration of the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions competency based curriculum. Held on September 23 and 24, 2026, the event took place at the Medical Education Unit Hall within the Ayurveda Medical College at the ACU Bengaluru Campus. This strategic initiative was designed to align physiotherapy education with modern healthcare standards and pedagogical frameworks, ensuring that faculty members are well equipped to deliver high quality, competency driven instruction.

The programme was led by Dr. R. Vasanthan, a distinguished academician and subject expert, who served as the principal resource person. The sessions were further enriched by the academic expertise of eminent faculty members from the BGS MCH Medical Education Unit, representing diverse medical specialties. The distinguished faculty included Dr. Sudhir G.K., Professor and Head, Department of Physiology; Dr. Satish S. Patil, Professor, Department of Physiology; Dr. Shubha Praveen, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology; Dr. Anitha N., Professor and Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Dr. Sandhya Rani D.C., Professor, Department of Anaesthesia; Dr. Kruttika Naik, Professor, Department of Pathology; and Dr. Pooja Raikar, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry. Their collective expertise brought valuable interdisciplinary perspectives to the programme, particularly in strengthening competency-based teaching, curriculum integration, and outcome-oriented learning. The programme also witnessed participation from faculty members of AIMS Physiotherapy, RR College of Physiotherapy, and BGS VIAHS, fostering meaningful academic exchange and collaboration towards the effective implementation of the NCAHP Competency-Based Curriculum in physiotherapy education.

The first day of the workshop was dedicated to the foundational elements of the NCAHP curriculum. Participants engaged in interactive, hands-on sessions that explored the transition from traditional teaching models to competency-based education. These sessions emphasized innovative teaching learning methods that prioritize student outcomes and clinical proficiency. By focusing on the core fundamentals of the new curriculum, the program provided a clear roadmap for faculty to restructure their instructional approaches in accordance with national mandates.

The second day shifted focus toward advanced academic assessment and long term educational goals. Key topics included the mapping of Course Outcomes to Program Outcomes, the implementation of robust assessment strategies, and the integration of value based education. A significant portion of the day was also devoted to the ideation of Heutagogy, or self determined learning, which encourages students to take an active role in their professional development. The program concluded with a formal valedictory ceremony where the resource persons were felicitated for their valuable contributions to faculty enrichment and academic excellence.
