Department of Anaesthesiology Hosts Landmark Simulation Workshop for ISACON KARNATAKA 2026 at BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagaruru
The Department of Anaesthesiology at BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully hosted a comprehensive simulation workshop titled Simulation in Anaesthesia on August 6, 2026. This significant academic event was organized as a pivotal component of ISACON KARNATAKA 2026 and received prestigious endorsement from the National Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists. This endorsement underscores the academic rigor of the program and its alignment with national objectives to enhance patient safety and professional excellence through skill based and simulation based education.
The workshop took place at the advanced Skills and Simulation Lab and was designed to provide anaesthesia professionals with an immersive, hands on learning experience. The curriculum focused on the critical recognition and management of perioperative emergencies, procedural mastery, crisis resource management, and the enhancement of communication within medical teams. The event attracted thirty delegates from across the state, including postgraduate residents, practicing anaesthesiologists, and academic faculty, fostering a collaborative environment for participants from diverse institutional backgrounds.
A distinguished assembly of fifteen faculty members, including seven external experts and eight internal specialists, facilitated the training. The formal inauguration was graced by eminent leaders in the field, including Dr. Srinivasalu D, Governing Council Member of ISA National, Dr. Henjarappa K.S, and Dr. S.B. Gangadhar, both former presidents of the ISA Karnataka State Branch. The leadership of BGS Medical College and Hospital, including the Dean and Principal along with Dr. K.S. Gangadhara, Dean of Faculty of Medicine at Adichunchanagiri University, presided over the ceremony. The inaugural addresses emphasized the vital role of simulation in modern medical education for developing clinical decision making and technical expertise.
Innovation was a hallmark of this workshop. To address the physical constraints of the simulation environment, the organizing committee implemented live recording and simultaneous projection of scenarios. This allowed all participants to observe the proceedings in real time, ensuring high levels of engagement and effective debriefing. The program utilized creative simulation modalities and structured role cards, providing ample time for participants to familiarize themselves with complex tasks and consolidate their learning through experiential practice.
Global and national leaders in the field recognized the excellence of the program. Dr. Bala Venkatasubramanian, Secretary of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists and former National President of ISA, conveyed his professional well wishes to the participants. Additionally, Dr. Naveen Malhotra, the current National President of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, shared a special video message during the valedictory ceremony, commending the department for its commitment to advancing academic standards.
The workshop concluded with a positive assessment of its impact on the participants. Feedback gathered through structured evaluations indicated that eighty percent of the attendees strongly agreed that the program was highly effective in its delivery and content, while the remaining twenty percent agreed. Under the leadership of Course Director Dr. Renuka R and Course Coordinator Dr. Aditya R, the event successfully demonstrated how simulation based training can be effectively integrated into professional medical development to improve clinical outcomes and patient safety.
