Intensive Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training for Foreign Medical Graduates at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagaruru
The Department of Pediatrics at Adichunchanagiri University, in collaboration with the Skill and Simulation Lab, hosted a specialized CPR Day celebration on July 21, 2026. This intensive educational initiative was designed to cultivate vital life-saving competencies among sixty Foreign Medical Graduates through a combination of theoretical instruction and high-fidelity simulation training. By focusing on critical emergency response techniques, the program reinforced the university commitment to excellence in medical education and its mission to prepare healthcare professionals for real-world clinical challenges.
The event opened with a compelling address by Dr. Ramesh M, Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics. He elucidated the profound impact of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on patient survival rates and contextualized the event within the broader scope of the World Restart a Heart global initiative. Dr. Ramesh emphasized that the early recognition of cardiac arrest remains the cornerstone of emergency medicine, urging the participants to view these skills as an essential responsibility of their medical vocation. His remarks set a professional tone for the day, highlighting the transition from academic knowledge to immediate clinical action.
The technical curriculum began with a session led by Dr. Aby Dany Varghese, who provided a detailed overview of the latest protocols in Basic Life Support. This segment transitioned into practical training where participants engaged in hands-on practice for both adult and child resuscitation scenarios. Using advanced simulation mannequins, the medical graduates practiced the nuances of chest compressions, airway management, and rescue breathing under the rigorous supervision of the faculty. This was followed by a specialized Infant CPR session conducted by Dr. Sahana Devadas and Dr. Supreeth Prasad N. R., ensuring that the graduates were proficient in age-appropriate techniques such as precise compression depth and coordinated ventilation.
Addressing the critical issue of airway obstructions, Dr. Nagaraj M. V. facilitated a comprehensive workshop on the management of choking emergencies. Participants were trained to identify signs of obstruction and execute maneuvers including abdominal thrusts and back blows across various age groups. The final phase of the training involved intensive supervision by the senior faculty, including Dr. Gayathri Devi C and Dr. Vidya G Mirji, who provided individualized feedback to ensure every participant met the required standards of competency. The program concluded with the resonance of its core philosophy that timely and competent resuscitation skills possess the power to save lives indefinitely, reaffirming the role of simulation-based training in modern medical pedagogy.
