Department of Clinical Pharmacology Organizes Pharmacovigilance Week Walkathon to Promote Drug Safety Awareness
The Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully organized a high profile Walkathon to commemorate Pharmacovigilance Week. The event served as a public health initiative designed to raise awareness regarding drug safety and the critical importance of monitoring adverse drug reactions within the community. The procession commenced at the BGS City Centre in Nelamangala and concluded at the main campus of the BGS Medical College and Hospital, symbolizing the institutional commitment to bridging the gap between clinical excellence and public awareness.
The event was officially inaugurated by Dr. Krishnamurthy V R, the Chief of Hospital, who emphasized the significance of vigilance in pharmacological practices to ensure patient safety and therapeutic efficacy. Joining the inauguration and the subsequent walk were several distinguished members of the academic and medical community, including Dr. Malini S from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Dr. Shreeharsha, Principal of BGS VINS. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort required across different medical disciplines to uphold the highest standards of drug safety protocols.
Participation in the Walkathon was notably high, featuring an enthusiastic cohort of second and third semester nursing students alongside the dedicated teaching and non teaching staff from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology. By involving students in such outreach activities, the institution aims to instill a sense of professional responsibility and clinical ethics early in their medical careers. The participants engaged with the public throughout the route, highlighting the necessity of reporting side effects and the role of healthcare providers in maintaining a robust pharmacovigilance system.
The successful completion of the Walkathon marks another milestone for the Department of Clinical Pharmacology in its ongoing mission to promote safe medication practices. Through such initiatives, BGS Medical College and Hospital continues to foster an environment of informed healthcare, ensuring that both future medical professionals and the general public are well equipped with the knowledge to prevent medication related complications. The event concluded with a renewed pledge from the faculty and students to remain vigilant and proactive in their clinical duties.
