BGS Medical College and Hospital Commemorates Sixth National Pharmacovigilance Week to Enhance Patient Safety

The Department of Clinical Pharmacology and the Pharmacovigilance Committee at BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully hosted the Sixth National Pharmacovigilance Week from September 17 to September 23, 2026. This week-long observance was conducted at Lecture Hall-3 and various clinical sites within the institution to emphasize the critical role of drug safety monitoring in modern healthcare. The primary objective of the initiative was to enhance awareness regarding pharmacovigilance practices, the systematic reporting of adverse drug reactions, and the promotion of rational medicine use to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The celebration featured a comprehensive itinerary designed to engage a diverse range of stakeholders within the medical community. The organizers successfully integrated clinical and non-clinical personnel, faculty members, and students into the various educational sessions. Furthermore, the outreach extended to patients, caregivers, and community groups, fostering a holistic approach to medication safety that transcends the traditional boundaries of a clinical setting. By educating the public alongside healthcare professionals, the institution sought to build a robust ecosystem for identifying and mitigating risks associated with pharmaceutical interventions.

A significant highlight of the event was the participation of distinguished guests including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Secretary of the Indian Medical Association, Nelamangala Branch. His presence underscored the importance of professional collaboration in maintaining high standards of clinical excellence and patient safety. During the sessions, experts discussed the evolving landscape of adverse drug reaction reporting and the necessity of maintaining vigilance throughout the therapeutic lifecycle of medications.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from the BGS Medical College and Hospital community to prioritize patient safety through rigorous pharmacovigilance protocols. The Department of Clinical Pharmacology reiterated its dedication to continuous education and the implementation of best practices in drug monitoring. Through these collective efforts, the institution continues to serve as a leader in advancing the quality of healthcare and protecting the well-being of the patients it serves.
