Dr. Veda N. Shetageri Represents BGS MCH at MIDCIPS 2026 and Wins National Psychiatry Debate
The Department of Psychiatry at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, recently hosted the prestigious Mid Term Continuing Medical Education program of the Indian Psychiatric Society, known as MIDCIPS 2026. Held at the Hotel Hyatt Regency, the event brought together leading clinicians, researchers, and academicians from across the country to discuss emerging challenges and therapeutic strategies within the field of mental health.
A primary highlight of the symposium was a rigorous and high level academic debate focusing on the complexities of prescribing practices. The debate addressed the critical question of whether a symptom based or a syndrome based approach to polypharmacy serves patients more effectively in clinical settings.
Representing the argument for syndrome based polypharmacy, Dr. Veda N.Shetageri, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at BGS MCH, Nagaruru, Bengaluru, teamed with Dr. Smitha Ramdas.Their opponents, Dr. Ajay and Dr. Anamika, provided a compelling counter argument favoring a symptom based approach.
Following a thorough evaluation by the panel of judges and engagement from the audience, Dr. Veda N. Shetageri and Dr. Smitha Ramdas were declared the winners of the debate. Their successful defense of the syndrome based model was lauded for its depth of research and clinical relevance.
