Faculty Participation in TRANSCON 2026 – 51st Annual National Conference
The Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion celebrated a significant academic achievement as Assistant Professor Dr. Aishwarya V represented the institution at TRANSCON 2026. This prestigious event marked the 51st Annual National Conference of the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology, which took place from September 17 to September 20 at the Chakolas Pavilion Convention Centre in Kochi, Kerala. Organized by the Department of Transfusion Medicine at Government Medical College, Thrissur, the conference operated under the timely and evocative theme of Connecting Ideas, Creating Lifelines.
A primary highlight of the faculty participation was the presentation of an e-poster titled Optimizing Sickle Cell Disease Management: Effectiveness and Safety Outcomes of Automated Red Cell Exchange. This research presentation focused on the critical role of automated red cell exchange in managing sickle cell disease, emphasizing its safety and efficacy in reducing Hemoglobin S levels. The study further detailed the clinical applications of this procedure in pre-operative optimization, the management of acute complications, and its vital function in stroke prophylaxis. This presentation offered a valuable platform to showcase institutional research and engage in high-level academic discourse with national experts in the fields of Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis.
Beyond the core scientific sessions, the engagement included extensive professional development through various specialized tracks. Dr. Aishwarya V participated in the IH Mastermind immunohematology quiz, demonstrating clinical expertise in a competitive academic environment. Furthermore, the pre-conference workshop titled ReGen: Regenerative Medicine in Practice provided intensive training on the latest concepts and clinical applications in cellular therapy. This workshop, hosted at the Holiday Inn Cochin, allowed for a deep dive into emerging medical technologies that are currently reshaping the landscape of regenerative medicine and its integration with traditional blood transfusion practices.
The four-day conference served as a vital nexus for professional networking and the exchange of scientific knowledge. By attending diverse sessions on therapeutic apheresis, immunohaematology, and recent advances in blood safety, the representative faculty member gained insights into the evolving standards of care that will directly benefit the department and its patients.
