International Infection Prevention Week 2025 at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur


Introduction:
The Department of Microbiology and the Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC), BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagarur, observed International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) 2025 from 19th to 25th October 2025. The event was organized to promote awareness, strengthen infection prevention practices, and encourage active participation across various student communities. The week-long observance included multiple academic and creative competitions designed to engage MBBS, Nursing, BPT, and Allied Health Sciences (AHS) students.


Event Proceedings:
As part of the IIPW observation, the organising committee conducted four major competitions revolving around the theme “Stand UPPP for Infection Prevention – Unite, Protect, Prevent and Prevail.”
1. Poster Competition:
Participants submitted creative and evidence-based posters in English or Kannada. Each team consisted of a maximum of two members.
2. Reel Making Competition:
Students showcased infection prevention messages through short videos (maximum 120 seconds). Teams of up to five members submitted reels in Kannada or English.
3. Poetry Writing Competition:
Participants expressed the significance of infection control through original poetry. Entries highlighted innovative perspectives on unity, prevention, and public health responsibility.
4. Essay Writing Competition:
Students submitted essays of up to 1000 words, demonstrating analytical thinking and awareness on the central theme. Essays reflected the importance of collective action against healthcare-associated infections.
All participants registered through a Google form, and submission deadlines were adhered to. The use of AI-generated content was prohibited to ensure authenticity and creativity. Evaluation was carried out by expert judges from the HICC Committee.
The prizes for all competitions—Poster, Reel Making, Poetry, and Essay Writing—were distributed during the institution’s Antimicrobial Awareness Week observation on 24 th Nov 2025, providing a meaningful platform to highlight the importance of antimicrobial stewardship alongside infection prevention practices


Key Highlights:

• Engagement of students in both academic and artistic formats, strengthening holistic learning.
• Seamless coordination by the Department of Microbiology and HICC, ensuring professionally conducted events.
The event was graced and supported by key faculty members including Dr. Sandeep T, Dr. Lyra P. R., Dr. Sreelaxmi, and Mr. Shanu Sharma, whose guidance greatly contributed to the success of the program. The organisers extend sincere appreciation to all judges, coordinators, and volunteers.


Conclusion:
The International Infection Prevention Week 2025 celebration at BGS MCH, Nagarur, successfully fulfilled its goal of enhancing awareness and fostering responsible infection control practices among future healthcare professionals. The enthusiastic involvement of students, combined with the dedicated efforts of faculty and staff, made the event impactful and memorable. The institution remains committed to promoting a culture of safety, prevention, and excellence in healthcare.
