Investing in Mothers, Investing in the Future” – Breastfeeding Awareness Programme at Anganawadi, Soluru
On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, the Department of Community Medicine Outreach Clinic BGS- MCH Soluru had organised an awareness programme for antenatal (ANC) and postnatal (PNC) mothers at the Anganawadi Centre, Soluru. This year’s global theme “Invest in Breastfeeding, Invest in the Future” was highlighted throughout the programme.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Ganganarasiah, (MSW), who warmly greeted the participants and introduced the speakers.
The awareness and interactive talk were delivered by, Dr. Satheesh BC and Dr. Bhoomika N. Department of Community Medicine, Outreach clinic Soluru.
Dr. Bhoomika N opened the session by discussing the benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and babies, covering nutritional, emotional, and long-term health advantages. She demonstrated latching techniques and explained the good signs of effective breastfeeding using a breast model, ensuring mothers could practically understand and apply the methods. The talk also addressed common myths and truths surrounding breastfeeding, empowering mothers with accurate and evidence-based information.
Dr. Satheesh BC spoke on the importance of general health check-ups and investigations for mothers during the antenatal and postnatal periods, emphasising that maternal health plays a vital role in ensuring successful breastfeeding practices. He also stressed the importance of breastfeeding awareness at the community level, highlighting how informed families and community workers can significantly improve breastfeeding outcomes. An interactive discussion was also held with ASHA workers, strengthening their role as community-level supporters of breastfeeding.
The event was conducted smoothly with the dedicated support of Smt. Lalithamma, Anganawadi Teacher, Mr. Ganganarasiah, (MSW), CHC Staff and the ASHA workers and of the area, whose contributions were instrumental in mobilising participants and ensuring active engagement.
