Protecting Tomorrow, Two Drops at a Time: BGS Medical College & Hospital Successfully Conducts National Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign
BGS Medical College & Hospital successfully organized the National Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign by establishing a dedicated Pulse Polio Immunization Booth at the Hospital Reception on Sunday, 28 June 2026. The initiative was undertaken in support of the Government of India’s mission to sustain a polio-free nation by ensuring that every child below five years of age receives the life-saving Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV). Following the booth activity on the inaugural day, the campaign continued over the next three days, with healthcare teams carrying out follow-up immunization activities as part of the National Pulse Polio Programme.
The Pulse Polio Immunization Booth functioned from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, providing convenient access to vaccination services for the children of faculty members, hospital staff, patients, and the general public. The campaign was jointly coordinated by the Department of Paediatrics and the Department of Community Medicine, with the dedicated support of healthcare professionals, nursing staff, faculty members, interns, and volunteers. Their coordinated efforts ensured efficient vaccine administration, meticulous documentation, and effective public awareness regarding the importance of routine childhood immunization and the eradication of polio.
The immunization booth was supervised by Mrs. Anupama, Public Health Officer, PHC Makali, ensuring strict adherence to the operational guidelines of the National Pulse Polio Programme. The booth was also visited by the WHO External Monitor, Dr. Pratap, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, who reviewed the functioning of the booth and provided valuable suggestions that further strengthened its efficient operation and quality of service delivery.
During the campaign, a total of 98 children received the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) at the BGS Medical College & Hospital Pulse Polio Immunization Booth, contributing to the national objective of achieving and sustaining universal immunization coverage.
BGS Medical College & Hospital extends its sincere appreciation to all faculty members, healthcare professionals, support staff, volunteers, parents, and members of the community for their enthusiastic participation, cooperation, and unwavering support, which played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the campaign.
