World Physiotherapy Day 2025

BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy and the Department of Physiotherapy, BGS MCH, celebrated World Physiotherapy Day 2025 on 8th September with great zeal. Centred around the theme “Healthy Ageing,” the event emphasized the vital role of physiotherapy and physical activity in preventing frailty and falls among the elderly. As part of the celebrations, Physio Week was organized to promote balance exercises and fall-prevention initiatives for the senior population from September 1st to 8th 2025.

Objectives:

  • To unite and promote the global physiotherapy profession
  • Promote high standards of practice, education, and research, and
  • Advocate for worldwide access to quality physiotherapy services to improve health and wellbeing.

Programme details:

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Madan Mohan M. R., Principal of BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy, who emphasized the evolving role of physiotherapy in modern medicine. He also addressed the toddler steps the college of physiotherapy has taken during the year while also emphasizing on the emerging therapeutic modalities in physical rehabilitation. Insights on the Physiotherapy Department’s collaborations with various other BGS MCH departments including World Hypertension with VINS and BGS MCH; SAMYOG in collaboration with Dept of Medicine & and AAMC Ayurvedic Medical College, C-AHEAD with Dept of Psychiatry, OB/GYN and Pediatrics, to name a few, were shared with the audience and also laid emphasis on the need for further continuous professional development.

Dr. Byresh A, Principal of AAMC, delivered an inspiring address as Chief Guest, stressing the importance of inter-professional collaboration in achieving holistic patient outcomes and the role of Physiotherapy in promoting health and well-being of elders. He also emphasized on SAMYOG [an integrated inter-disciplinary collaborative approach involving department of Medicine, Ayurveda and Physiotherapy for stroke and other chronic conditions]. He even highlighted the need for taking such holistic approaches for better patient outcomes.

Dr. K. S. Gangadhara, Dean-cum-Principal of BGS MCH, addressed the gathering sharing the insights about growth of the department of physiotherapy and college of physiotherapy while emphasizing importance of physiotherapy in patient recovery.  With the overwhelming response to the physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation provided at BGS MCH and buoyed by the various successful collaborations and proactive participation by BGS VIPT and Dept of Physiotherapy, Dean floated the idea of starting Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department in BGS MCH Hospital in the near future towards advancing patient care.

Dr. Sheshagiri Rao, in-charge Chief of Hospital, addressed the gathering about the importance physiotherapy for elderly population and emphasising the need for active ageing while eloquently putting together simple means to achieve it.

 

The event also was marked by the unveiling of the inaugural edition of the BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy college magazine, ENGRAM, followed by official release of the magazine by the Dignitaries. ENGRAM presented a collage of the activities that have happened at the college and took everyone through the memory lane of bygone year at BGS VIPT. It also featured research articles from faculties, student perspectives —marking a significant milestone for physiotherapy college and department.

Furthermore, as part of the celebrations, a captivating display of creativity and clinical knowledge, Dr. Janani, PT, and team performed the PNF Neuro Dance, demonstrating therapeutic movement patterns through choreographed dance.

The event concluded with “Exercise is Fun,” a lively and interactive fitness activity session wherein many HODs, senior faculty members of various departments including both male and female faculties from BGS MCH, BGS VINS and BGS VIAHS actively participated with high energy and enthusiasm to promote “Healthy Aging.” The event was also attended by BPT students providing them a platform for cross-disciplinary engagement and experiential learning beyond the classroom. The session highlighted the role of physical activity in daily life, stress relief through movement, and the promotion of healthy ageing. The enthusiastic participation from both faculty and students underscored the power of collaboration in advancing holistic healthcare and well-being.
