BGS Medical College and Hospital Conducts Curriculum Implementation Support Program III
The Medical Education Unit of BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully conducted the Curriculum Implementation Support Program III on July 28 and 29, 2026. This intensive two day faculty development program was designed to train thirty selected faculty members in the nuanced implementation of Competency Based Medical Education. The workshop was held at the Medical Education Unit Hall and served as a critical step in aligning the institution with the latest National Medical Commission standards.
The program was executed under the expert guidance of Dr Nachiket Shankar, the National Medical Commission Coordinator from St John’s Medical College Bangalore. Dr Nachiket Shankar provided essential oversight to ensure that the training met the rigorous pedagogical requirements set forth by NMC. The event commenced with an introductory session and an inauguration ceremony led by Dr Satish S Patil and Dr Nikhil S Bhardwaj, setting a professional tone for the comprehensive training schedule.
Throughout the first day, participants engaged in deep discussions regarding the fundamental shifts from conventional models to the competency based framework. Key sessions focused on the Graduate Medical Education Regulations of 2024, emphasizing integration, training methods, and the newly introduced Foundation Course. Faculty members including Dr Umadevi B, Dr Spoorthy S, and Dr Gireesh led deliberations on alignment and integration frameworks, while specialized sessions on electives, early clinical exposure, and the Attitude, Ethics, and Communication module provided a holistic view of the revised curriculum by Dr Mohamed Tanveer Ahmed.
The second day of the workshop shifted focus toward practical application and assessment strategies. Participants explored the Student Doctor method of clinical teaching and underwent extensive skills training facilitated by Dr K S Gangadhara, Dean of BGS MCH. Significant attention was given to the principles of assessment in medical education, including objective structured clinical examinations and the importance of formative feedback. The program concluded with hands on activities regarding the drafting of teaching schedules, logbook maintenance by Dr Kruttika Naik, and curricular governance.
The successful completion of this program marks a significant milestone for BGS Medical College and Hospital in its ongoing commitment to academic excellence.
