Department of Physiology Initiates ACU Seed Grant–Approved, CTRI-Registered Parkinson’s Research Study at BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagaruru
The Department of Physiology, BGS Medical College and Hospital, on 19th August 2026, initiated a Seed-Money Grant research study entitled “Effectiveness of Non-Invasive Electrical Vestibular Stimulation as an Adjunctive Therapy in the Management of Insomnia and Cognitive Decline in Subjects with Parkinson’s Disease.”
The study has been registered with the Clinical Trials Registry–India (CTRI) and is being conducted under the leadership of Dr Sai Sailesh Kumar G, Principal Investigator (PI). The Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs) are Dr Gangadhara K S, Dr Sudhir G K and Dr Naveen Ravi.
As part of the study, the research team has undertaken participant screening and community outreach activities at Sudhama Old Age Home, R R Nagar, Bengaluru, and Punachetana Foundation. These screening visits were conducted to identify and assess potential participants who meet the predefined eligibility criteria for the study.
The initiative represents the Department of Physiology’s continued commitment to translational and clinically relevant research, particularly in exploring non-invasive vestibular stimulation as a potential adjunctive approach for addressing insomnia and cognitive decline associated with Parkinson’s disease. The community-based screening activities have also helped the research team establish contact with potential participants and facilitate the recruitment process for the study.
