World Red Cross Day Celebration at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagaruru
Introduction
As part of the observance of World Red Cross Day, the BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy, in association with the BGS Vijnatham Institute of Allied Health Sciences and the BGS Vijnatham Institute of Nursing, organized an awareness and educational program on 9 May 2026 at the Reception Area of BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur.
The event was conducted with the objective of promoting humanitarian values, emergency preparedness, social responsibility, and awareness regarding blood donation among students and healthcare trainees. The celebration reflected the principles of humanity, compassion, and service upheld by the Red Cross movement and encouraged students to actively contribute toward community welfare.
Event Proceedings
The program commenced with a skit presentation by the first year Bachelor of Physiotherapy students of BGS VIPT. Through an engaging and meaningful performance, the students portrayed the humanitarian services rendered by the Red Cross organization during emergencies and disasters. The skit effectively emphasized the values of unity, compassion, and selfless service to humanity.
Following the cultural presentation, the first year Anaesthesia Technology and Operation Theatre Technology students of BGS Allied Health Sciences conducted a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) demonstration. The demonstration highlighted the importance of basic life-saving skills and the need for immediate response during medical emergencies. The session served as an informative and practical learning experience for the attendees.
The highlight of the event was the guest lecture delivered by Dr. Sreelatha R. In her address, she explained the significance of voluntary blood donation and discussed the medical benefits, safety measures, and precautions associated with blood donation. She also encouraged students to develop awareness regarding the constant need for blood donors in healthcare institutions and inspired them to contribute actively toward this noble cause.
