BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy Conducts Ergonomic Awareness Programme for BGS MCH Office Staff at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagaruru

The BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy successfully conducted a comprehensive Ergonomic Awareness Programme on August 31, 2026, at the institutional Seminar Hall. This initiative was specifically designed for the office executives and non-teaching staff of BGS Medical College to address the growing concerns regarding occupational health and the physical demands of administrative roles. By focusing on the intersection of workplace environment and physical wellbeing, the event aimed to equip participants with the knowledge necessary to prevent work related musculoskeletal disorders.

The educational session was facilitated by Dr. Nagaveni Hegde, Assistant Professor of Physiotherapy, who provided expert insights into the principles of ergonomics. The curriculum covered essential topics such as the science of proper sitting posture and the strategic arrangement of workstations to minimize physical strain. Dr. Hegde emphasized the importance of maintaining spinal alignment and optimizing the height of computer monitors and chairs to reduce the risk of long-term injury.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, the programme incorporated practical demonstrations of movement breaks and simple exercises that can be seamlessly integrated into a busy workday. These exercises were designed to alleviate tension and improve circulation without requiring specialized equipment or significant time away from professional duties. The inclusion of these practical elements ensured that the attendees could immediately apply the ergonomic principles to their daily routines.

The event was characterized by high levels of engagement and active participation from the non-teaching staff of BGS Medical College. To further enhance the learning experience, the organizers included interactive activities and stretching sessions that fostered a collaborative and energetic atmosphere. These activities served not only as physical relief but also as a means of reinforcing the health benefits of regular movement within an office setting.

The successful execution of the programme was overseen by Faculty Coordinator Dr. Vaishnavi Puranik, Assistant Professor of Physiotherapy. Through initiatives such as this, the BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy continues to demonstrate its commitment to community health and professional wellbeing. By educating administrative staff on the importance of ergonomic practices, the institution promotes a culture of health that extends beyond the classroom and clinical settings into the broader professional environment.
