The Department of Anaesthesiology organized a special program to commemorate Red Cross Day 2026 on 9 May 2026 , with the objective of creating awareness among the public regarding the importance of timely emergency care and immediate medical intervention. The event served as a meaningful platform to promote community health education while highlighting the vital role of Basic Life Support (BLS) in saving lives during emergencies.
As part of the observance, students of the 2nd and 4th semesters of the Anaesthesia Technology and Operation Theatre (AT-OT) programme actively participated in an educational outreach initiative by staging an informative skit for patients, visitors, and members of the public. Through realistic emergency scenarios, the students demonstrated the importance of prompt action and emphasized how the first few minutes following a medical crisis are crucial for patient survival.
The skit effectively showcased essential Basic Life Support techniques, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the management of airway obstruction. With remarkable clinical accuracy and professionalism, the students illustrated the sequence of actions required to stabilize a patient before the arrival of advanced medical assistance. The visual and interactive presentation enabled the audience to gain a better understanding of these fundamental life-saving measures and their significance in improving patient outcomes.
Faculty members of the Department of Anaesthesiology appreciated the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the participating students and emphasized the importance of observing Red Cross Day through community-oriented initiatives. They noted that such programs reinforce the institution’s commitment to public health awareness and contribute towards building a more informed, prepared, and resilient society.
