Awareness Programme on World Immunization Week 2026 for Patients and Caregivers Attending OPD

Introduction

In observance of World Immunization Week 2026, the Department of Pediatrics at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur, organized an awareness program on 24 April 2026 at the Pediatric Outpatient Department (OPD). The event was conducted in alignment with the global theme advocated by the World Health Organization, “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible.”

The programme aimed to enhance awareness among parents and caregivers regarding the importance of timely vaccination and to address common misconceptions surrounding immunization in children, thereby promoting informed decision-making and strengthening community confidence in immunization services.

Event Proceedings

Following the dissemination of invitations within the Pediatric OPD, children along with their parents and caregivers were assembled at the venue. Approximately 60–70 participants attended the programme.

The session was conducted in an interactive and participatory format to ensure better engagement and understanding. It was led by Dr. Gayathri Devi C and Dr. Supreeth Prasad, who oriented and sensitized the attendees on various aspects of immunization.

The speakers provided clear and simplified explanations on the importance of vaccines, the different types available, and their mechanisms of action. Emphasis was placed on routine immunization schedules, prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases, and the safety and effectiveness of vaccines. The use of simple, culturally appropriate language facilitated better comprehension among participants.

The interactive nature of the session encouraged caregivers to actively express their concerns and seek clarifications. All queries were addressed comprehensively, which contributed to reducing vaccine hesitancy and enhancing trust between healthcare providers and the community.
