The Department of Biochemistry at the Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre hosted the eleventh annual state conference of the Association of Medical Biochemists of Karnataka from June 25 to June 27, 2026. This prestigious gathering, held in association with the Karnataka Chapter of the Association of Medical Biochemists of Karnataka and under the auspices of the Association of Medical Biochemists of India, focused on the theme of driving quality and competence through systems thinking with a specific emphasis on the ISO 15189:2022 standards.

A cornerstone of the conference was the expert lecture delivered by Dr. Suresh D R, Professor of Biochemistry and Director of the Central Laboratory at BGSMCH. As an empanelled NABL Lead and Technical Assessor, Dr. Suresh provided deep insights into the practical implementation of internal audits, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous quality improvement. The academic program was further enriched by a series of specialized sessions led by distinguished experts in the field. Dr. Jaya Kumari S addressed the critical components of internal quality control and external quality assessment, while Dr. Suma H R provided a comprehensive overview of risk management and error prevention strategies. Complementing these technical discussions, Dr. Sumathi A focused on the human element of laboratory management by detailing best practices for personnel competence and training. These presentations collectively offered a holistic view of the operational excellence required in modern clinical biochemistry.

One of the most interactive segments of the event was a high level panel discussion titled Journey to ISO 15189:2022 Accreditation. The panel featured a diverse group of stakeholders including Dr. Susruta Sen, Dr. Jayachandra, Dr. Shiva Prabodh, Mr. Rafiq, Dr. Ramalinga Reddy, and Dr. Maitreyee.
