Awareness program to Ayurvedic Students of Adichunchanagiri Medical College about newborn care & Neonatal Resuscitation

The Department of Pediatrics at Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences successfully conducted a comprehensive awareness program focused on Newborn Care and Neonatal Resuscitation for students of the Adichunchanagiri Ayurvedic Medical College. Held throughout the month of June 2026, the initiative served as a vital interdisciplinary bridge, equipping future Ayurvedic practitioners with essential clinical knowledge to improve neonatal health outcomes. The program was hosted in the Department of Pediatrics Demo Hall and addressed the critical need for early identification and management of neonatal complications.

The educational series was structured into multiple sessions led by distinguished faculty members from the fields of Pediatrics and Neonatology. Dr. Ramesh M, Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics, initiated the program with interactive sessions on June 11, 2026, and June 18, 2026. His lectures provided an in-depth exploration of essential newborn care, emphasizing the importance of thermal protection, exclusive breastfeeding, and prevention of neonatal infections. Furthermore, these sessions offered practical guidance on the initial management of sick newborns, ensuring that students could recognize early warning signs requiring immediate medical attention.

The final component of the series took place on June 25, 2026, led by Dr. Sahana Devadas, Professor in the Department of Neonatology. This session was dedicated specifically to the principles of Neonatal Resuscitation. Dr. Devadas highlighted the clinical urgency of timely recognition of newborns in distress and detailed the systematic steps of basic neonatal resuscitation. By integrating the latest evidence-based practices into the curriculum, the session underscored the role of prompt intervention in significantly reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality rates.

Organized by Dr. Ramesh M following a formal request from the Adichunchanagiri Ayurvedic Medical College, this collaborative effort reflects the university’s commitment to holistic healthcare education. The participating students engaged actively in the discussions, utilizing the platform to clarify complex clinical queries. The successful conclusion of this program marks a significant step in strengthening the foundational skills of students across disciplines, ultimately contributing to the broader goal of enhancing maternal and child health services within the region.
