BGS Vijnatham Institute of Nursing Sciences Hosts Advanced Faculty Development Programme on Outcome Based Education
The BGS Vijnatham Institute of Nursing Sciences successfully conducted a comprehensive Faculty Development Programme focused on Outcome Based Education in Nursing on August 21 2026. Held at the state of the art BGS VINS Skill Lab the session served as a pivotal platform for academic advancement and pedagogical refinement. The programme was specifically designed to strengthen the faculty members understanding and practical application of competency based and outcome based educational frameworks within the nursing discipline.
The session was facilitated by Dr. T. V. Suresh Kumar who serves as a Mentor for Adichunchanagiri University in the areas of NAAC and NBA Accreditations Outcome Based Education Practices and SDG Linked Transformation. Dr. Kumar presented a systematic thirteen step framework that provided a roadmap for modern nursing education. This framework covered the essential stages of identifying core competencies formulating precise Course Outcomes and the strategic application of Blooms Taxonomy to ensure cognitive and practical depth. Furthermore the session detailed the critical mapping of these outcomes with Millers Pyramid to ensure that clinical skills are assessed at appropriate levels of professional development.
A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to the development of Program Outcomes based on the National Medical Commission graduate attributes and the intricate process of mapping Course Outcomes to Program Outcomes. Dr. Kumar emphasized the necessity of selecting appropriate assessment methods that accurately reflect student achievement. Faculty members were guided through the technical aspects of measuring attainment data and interpreting these results to foster an environment of evidence based educational growth. The importance of preparing robust Action Taken Reports was highlighted as a cornerstone for continuous quality improvement and institutional accountability.
The programme concluded with a strong emphasis on providing appropriate justification and evidence at every stage of curriculum planning and evaluation. By aligning health professions education with the relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals the institute reaffirmed its commitment to global standards of excellence.
