Department of Pediatrics Hosts Specialized Seminar on Pediatric Skin Care for Nursing Professionals at BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagaruru

The Department of Pediatrics at BGS MCH successfully convened an educational seminar focused on the critical nuances of pediatric skin care on August 19, 2026. Held in the Pediatric Demo Room, the event served as a specialized training session tailored for nursing professionals, emphasizing the intersection of clinical theory and bedside practice. The seminar aimed to standardize skin care protocols and enhance the quality of neonatal and pediatric nursing interventions within the institution.

Dr. Ramesh M, Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics, initiated the proceedings by addressing the fundamental role that nursing staff play in the maintenance of integumentary health. He articulated a pragmatic approach to pediatric skin care, underscoring that nurses are the primary observers responsible for the early detection of skin complications. During his address, Dr. Ramesh highlighted a systematic framework titled Newborn Skin Care Six Steps, which provides a structured methodology for nurses to prevent common dermatological issues in clinical settings.

The academic session continued with a comprehensive technical presentation by Dr. Mamatha P, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics. Her lecture delved into the physiological vulnerabilities of neonatal skin and the corresponding best practices required for its protection. Dr. Mamatha detailed the specific precautions and daily observations necessary to ensure the integrity of a childs skin barrier. The discussion provided the nursing staff with evidence based guidelines on appropriate cleansing techniques, moisture management, and the identification of pathological skin changes that require immediate medical attention.

The event concluded with an interactive forum where staff nurses engaged with the faculty to clarify complex care scenarios. This exchange fostered a deeper understanding of evidence based practices and reinforced the collective commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence. By bridging the gap between specialized pediatric knowledge and routine nursing care, the Department of Pediatrics has further strengthened the multidisciplinary framework essential for superior neonatal outcomes.
