BGS Medical College and Hospital Hosts Expert Guest Lecture on Diabetic Retinopathy Management
The Department of Ophthalmology at BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully hosted a comprehensive scientific program titled Diabetic Retinopathy An Overvi and Management on August 11, 2026, at the MEU Hall. The event served as a critical platform for medical professionals and students to delve into the complexities of one of the leading causes of preventable blindness worldwide. The session began with a traditional invocation song and a welcoming ceremony for the distinguished guests, followed by a digital lamp lighting and a symbolic watering of a plant to mark the commencement of the intellectual proceedings.
The event was graced by the presence of Honourable Dean Dr. K. S. Gangadhara, Chief of Hospital Dr. Krishnamurthy V. R., and Guest of Honour Dr. Manjunath M. C., renowned Vitreoretina specialist and Managing Director of Manjunatha Nethralaya, Bengaluru. Honourable Dean Dr. K. S. Gangadhara addressed the gathering, setting the tone for the programme. In the opening remarks, Dr. Gnana Jyothi C Bada, Professor and Head of Department of Ophthalmology, provided an insightful overview of the department’s current clinical services and diagnostic facilities. Following the departmental update, Professor Dr. Spoorthy S. introduced the Guest of Honour and keynote speaker, Dr. Manjunath M. C.
Following a formal felicitation , Dr. Manjunath M C, delivered an extensive and interactive lecture that navigated the complexitiesof diabetic retinopathy from screening protocols to advanced surgical interventions. His presentation utilized a variety of clinical cases, high resolution diagnostic images, and detailed surgical videos to highlight the key aspects of medical, laser, and surgical management. Asignificant portion of the session focused on Panretinal Photocoagulation and specialized procedures, providing attendees with practical insights into modern treatment modalities. The session further facilitated professional exchange through an interactive case based discussion, allowing participants to engage with real world clinical scenarios and refine their diagnostics. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Krishna Prasad A. H., Associate Professor, who expressed gratitude to the institutional leadership and the guest speaker. He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the organising committee, led by Dr. Gnana Jyothi C Bada, Professor and HOD, along with Professors Dr. Bharathi N and Dr. Spoorthy S, Dr. Krishna Prasad A. H., Associate Professor and faculty members Dr. Jeevitha R., Dr. Sinchana Adyanthaya, Dr. Chetana B. S., Dr. Yashaswini S. R., Dr. Nagapriya N. G., and Dr. Nusrutjahan Dakhani, as well as the non-teaching staff, towards the successful conduct of the programme.
