Department of Community Medicine Conducts Integrated Health Awareness Program at Soluru Panchayat
The Department of Community Medicine at BGS Medical College and Hospital, in collaboration with the Soluru Panchayat and the local Anganwadi center, successfully conducted a comprehensive health awareness program focused on Breastfeeding Awareness and National Deworming Day on August 10, 2026. Held at the Soluru Panchayat Kendra, the initiative aimed to strengthen community health literacy and promote essential pediatric care practices among the rural population. The event was organized under the auspices of the Department of Women and Child Welfare, bringing together medical professionals and local administrative leaders to address critical aspects of maternal and child health.
Dr. R. Preeti, Senior Resident from the Department of Community Medicine, served as the primary resource person for the clinical sessions. Her presentation provided an in depth examination of optimal breastfeeding practices, emphasizing the vital importance of early initiation within the first hour of birth and the necessity of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a childs life. The discourse further extended to the technical aspects of complementary feeding, the benefits of rooming in to foster maternal infant bonding, and the indispensable role of family support systems in ensuring successful lactation outcomes for new mothers.
In conjunction with the breastfeeding awareness initiative, the program also marked National Deworming Day. Dr. Preeti and the attending medical staff highlighted the significance of regular deworming in preventing anemia and improving the nutritional status of children. Detailed guidance was provided regarding personal hygiene and environmental sanitation as primary preventive measures against parasitic infections. Beyond the clinical demonstrations, the organizers shared vital information regarding the spectrum of healthcare services available at BGS Medical College and Hospital, including specialized mother and child care facilities and the formal referral pathways for advanced medical interventions.
The event saw active participation from approximately 50 beneficiaries, including mothers and grandmothers, who engaged in interactive discussions with the medical experts. The program was graced by several prominent officials, including Child Development Project Officer Mr. Surendra, Assistant Child Development Project Officer Shobha, and Panchayat Development Officer Bettaswamy Gowda. The clinical team was supported by Lady Health Visitor Susheelamma, Dr. Geeta from the Community Health Center Soluru, and Dr. Saraswati, an AYUSH physician. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of the institution to grassroots healthcare delivery and the achievement of broader public health objectives.
