Interdepartmental Colloquium on Clinical Trials in Pediatrics Conducted at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagaruru

The Department of Clinical Pharmacology and the Department of Pediatrics at BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully hosted an Interdepartmental Colloquium on June 25, 2026. Held at the MEU Hall, the event focused on the critical theme of clinical trials in pediatrics, aiming to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application in the specialized field of pediatric research. The collaborative initiative served as a vital platform for enhancing awareness and fostering high-level academic discourse regarding the ethical, scientific, and regulatory frameworks essential for conducting research involving children.

The colloquium convened a diverse group of faculty members and interns from both departments, encouraging a robust exchange of knowledge and promoting interdisciplinary synergy. Throughout the sessions, speakers highlighted the specific complexities inherent to pediatric clinical studies. These discussions navigated the nuances of age-appropriate pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, the sensitivity required for informed consent and assent, and the rigorous safety protocols mandated by global regulatory bodies. The program underscored that pediatric research is not merely a subset of adult studies but a distinct discipline requiring specialized methodology.

Distinguished experts, including Dr. Suresh K and Dr. Malini from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, joined Dr. Ramesh M, Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics, in delivering a series of insightful presentations. The faculty addressed the implementation of Good Clinical Practice guidelines, the meticulous monitoring of adverse events, and the role of pharmacovigilance in ensuring patient safety. A significant portion of the dialogue was dedicated to the necessity of evidence-based medicine in refining pediatric healthcare outcomes and ensuring that therapeutic interventions are both safe and effective for the younger population.

The event concluded with an interactive question and answer session that invited participants to critically evaluate current research practices and identify emerging opportunities in the field. This dialogue reinforced the value of multidisciplinary cooperation in advancing the quality of clinical trials. The proceedings ended with a formal vote of thanks to the organizing departments and participants, reaffirming the commitment of BGS Medical College and Hospital to institutional excellence in medical research and the advancement of ethical clinical practices in pediatric health.
