Indian Academy of Pediatrics Karnataka State Hosts Successful Inaugural State Badminton Tournament
Pediatricians from across Karnataka gathered at R. N. Shetty Indoor Stadium to promote physical fitness and professional camaraderie through competitive sports.
The Karnataka State Branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) marked a significant milestone in promoting professional wellness and community building with the successful conduct of its inaugural State Badminton Tournament. Held on May 31, 2026, at the R. N. Shetty Indoor Stadium, the event brought together pediatricians from across Karnataka, including participants from Raichur, Sirsi, Bengaluru, Hubballi, and Dharwad.
Moving beyond the clinical environment, the tournament provided a unique platform for healthcare professionals to engage in physical activity while strengthening inter-regional professional bonds through sports.
The prestigious event was graced by Dr. Ravishankara Marpalli, President of IAP Karnataka State, who inaugurated the tournament as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Dr. Vijay Kulkarni, Vice President of IAP Karnataka State, who attended as the Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries highlighted the importance of maintaining physical fitness and a balanced lifestyle among healthcare professionals, who often work under demanding and stressful conditions. Their presence underscored the Academy’s commitment to the overall well-being of its members.
A total of 26 pediatricians participated in the tournament, competing across a wide range of categories, including Women’s Singles and Doubles (below and above 45 years), Men’s Singles and Doubles (below and above 45 years), and Mixed Doubles (Open Category). The format ensured fair and spirited competition while encouraging participation across different age groups.
Among the standout performers was Dr. Aditi Gaonkar, Senior Resident, Department of Pediatrics, BGS Medical College Hospital, who delivered an exceptional performance in the below-45 years category. Demonstrating remarkable skill and athletic excellence, she emerged as the Winner in Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles, and also secured the Runner-up position in the Mixed Doubles Open Category. Her outstanding achievements highlighted the talent and sporting spirit present within the younger generation of pediatricians.
The inaugural IAP Karnataka State Badminton Tournament concluded as a resounding success, achieving its objectives of fostering camaraderie, encouraging healthy competition, and promoting a culture of fitness among medical professionals. The organizing committee expressed satisfaction with the enthusiastic participation and sportsmanship displayed throughout the event.
