Awareness Program on Tobacco Consumption

Introduction

The Tobacco Cessation Centre, BGS Medical College and Hospital, in collaboration with community stakeholders, organized an Awareness Program on Tobacco Consumption on 24th September 2025 at the Dasanapura “E” Block Vegetable Market. The program aimed to raise awareness about the health hazards of tobacco use, encourage cessation, and mobilize individuals to access the Tobacco Cessation Centre for de-addiction support.

Event Proceedings

The program began with a warm welcome to all dignitaries, faculty members, students, and community participants. The Market Association, represented by Mr. Govindappa (President) and Mr. Nagendra (Secretary), extended strong support for the initiative.

The sessions were led by:

  • Dr. Virupakasha, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry, BGS MCH

  • Dr. Babu Dilip, Associate Professor, BGS MCH

Both speakers delivered impactful talks on the physical and psychological effects of tobacco use, highlighting its addictive nature and strategies for quitting. Interactive discussions with local vendors and residents allowed participants to share their perspectives, while healthcare professionals offered practical guidance on cessation methods.

Conclusion

The Awareness Program on Tobacco Consumption at Dasanapura “E” Block Vegetable Market created an impactful dialogue between healthcare professionals and the community, successfully meeting its objectives of spreading awareness, motivating behavior change, and fostering a supportive environment for a healthier, tobacco-free society.
