BGS Medical College and Hospital Commemorates World Immunization Week 2026 with Academic and Awareness Programme
The Departments of Pediatrics and Community Medicine at BGS Medical College and Hospital commemorated World Immunization Week 2026 with a comprehensive awareness and academic programme held on April 29, 2026, at the MEU Hall, BGS MCH Bengaluru Campus. The event was organized under the theme, “For Every Generation, Vaccines Work,” emphasizing the vital role of immunization in protecting public health across all age groups.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ramesh M., Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics, who highlighted the importance of vaccination in reducing preventable diseases and strengthening healthcare systems. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the “Immunization in Practice: A Structured Training Program for Doctors” by the Digital Health & AI Team. The programme was presented by Dr. Sajjan Madappady, Digital Health Consultant at ACU, with the objective of enhancing practical knowledge and clinical competencies in immunization practices among healthcare professionals.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. K. S. Gangadhara, Dean-cum-Principal, emphasized the institution’s continued commitment to preventive healthcare initiatives, vaccination awareness, and public health education.
During the event, the “Immunization Clinic Status Report 2025–26” was presented by Dr. Anu Mohandas, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, and Dr. Vijayalakshmi B., Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics. The report highlighted the department’s achievements, outreach activities, and immunization services delivered over the past year.
The academic sessions featured expert talks by distinguished guest speakers. Dr. Rajani B. N., Program Director, RCH, delivered an informative lecture on “Objectives of the Universal Immunization Programme and National Immunization Schedule,” focusing on vaccination coverage and national immunization strategies. Dr. Satishchandra from SRTL, WHO, addressed the audience on the theme “For Every Generation, Vaccines Work,” reinforcing the global significance of vaccines in disease prevention and community protection.
Adding an engaging component to the celebration, the Department of Pediatrics organized a “Quiz on Immunization” for participants. The session was coordinated by Dr. Lavanya S., Dr. Supreeth Prasad N. R., Dr. Priya, Dr. Sahana, and Dr. Shagufta Parveen. The interactive activity encouraged enthusiastic participation and enhanced awareness regarding immunization practices in an informative and engaging manner.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shagufta Parveen, Senior Resident, Department of Pediatrics, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, guest speakers, faculty members, residents, students, and organizing committee members for their support and contributions toward the successful conduct of the event. The ceremony was efficiently compered by Dr. Aditi G., Senior Resident.
The observance of World Immunization Week 2026 at BGS MCH successfully reinforced the importance of vaccination awareness, preventive healthcare, and collaborative public health efforts in building a healthier society.
