BGS Medical College and Hospital Hosts Strategic Brainstorming Session on Digital Innovation in Medical Education

BGS Medical College and Hospital recently conducted a comprehensive brainstorming session titled Research in Medical Education with Digital Innovation at the Medical Education Unit Hall. Organized by the Scientific Committee and the Medical Education Unit in collaboration with the Digital Health and AI Centre, the event was strategically timed to address the ICMR NMC 2026 Call for Proposals. This initiative brought together thirty faculty members to explore how digital advancements and rigorous scientific inquiry can enhance the quality of medical education in India.

The session began with an orientation by Dr. Raghuram V, Associate Dean of Research, who provided detailed insights into the ICMR NMC funding requirements and the essential components of effective grant writing. This was followed by a presentation from Dr. Satish Patil, Coordinator of the Medical Education Unit, who emphasized the importance of systematic inquiry in strengthening teaching practices and assessment systems. These introductory sessions established a solid foundation for the subsequent collaborative discussions, focusing on the formulation of relevant and methodologically sound research questions.

During the interactive portion of the event, faculty members engaged in deep discussions regarding high priority areas such as competency based medical education, simulation based training, and the integration of artificial intelligence in learner analytics. The participants identified eleven distinct research themes, ranging from virtual reality modules for clinical skills to AI driven student engagement models. These themes underscore a collective commitment to addressing real world educational challenges through innovative technological interventions and interdisciplinary cooperation.

The success of the brainstorming session was evidenced by the development and submission of three major research proposals to ICMR by the August 21 deadline. These projects include an AI enabled digital learning ecosystem for first year MBBS students led by Dr. Anu Mohandas, a multicomponent student engagement model led by Dr. Raghuram V, and a simulated virtual zone for teaching inborn errors of metabolism led by Dr. Suresh D R. These proposals represent the institutions capacity to translate complex educational concepts into fundable and scientifically robust research initiatives.

By bridging the gap between academic theory and practical research application, this initiative has significantly strengthened the research culture at BGS Medical College and Hospital. The collaboration between the Medical Education Unit and the Digital Health and AI Centre positions the institution at the forefront of digital transformation in healthcare education. Through such structured efforts, the college continues to contribute to the development of the Indian Medical Graduate as a proficient researcher and a leader in evidence based clinical practice.
