Launch of Animated Educational Video – “A Secret of Sparkly Tooth” by Department of Dentistry, BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur

Introduction

At BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagarur , the Department of Dentistry, organised the formal launch of the animated educational video A Secret of Sparkly Tooth” on 13th November 2025 at the MEU Hall. Conceived as an innovative educational initiative, the video aims to promote oral hygiene awareness among children through engaging visual storytelling. Held on the eve of Children’s Day, the event highlighted the institution’s commitment to child health and preventive dental education.

The programme was graced by Dean-cum-Principal Dr. K. S. Gangadhara, Chief of Hospital Dr. Krishnamurthy V. R., Vice Principal Dr. Prithvi Shankar, RMO Dr. Pradeep, and faculty members from various departments, reflecting strong institutional support for digital health innovations. This initiative aligns with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, reinforcing the institution’s dedication to promoting healthy habits and well-being for all age groups.

Event Proceedings

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Pavithra Prabakaran, Assistant Professor, who presided as the Master of Ceremony. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries—Dean-cum-Principal Dr. K. S. Gangadhara, Chief of Hospital Dr. Krishnamurthy V. R., Vice Principal Dr. Prithvi Shankar, and Dr. Sapna Jyoti, Professor and Head, Department of Dentistry—marking the formal inauguration of the programme.

Dr. Sapna Jyoti then addressed the gathering, elaborating on the conceptualisation of the animated video and emphasizing its importance in inculcating early oral hygiene practices among children. She highlighted how the initiative symbolically aligns with the spirit of Children’s Day by advocating for improved pediatric oral health.

The animated video, created by Dr. Bindushree R. V., Senior Resident, Department of Dentistry, in collaboration with the Digital Health and AI Centre, was screened in both Kannada and English. The dual-language approach showcased the institution’s commitment to inclusive and accessible health education.

Following the screening, dignitaries including Dr. K. S. Gangadhara and Dr. Krishnamurthy V. R. shared their appreciation for the creative effort and encouraged the development of further community-oriented digital health resources. The Department of Dentistry acknowledged their unwavering support and guidance in fostering innovative educational endeavours.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Nikhil N., Associate Professor, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, participants, and the Digital Health and AI Centre. Subsequently, the video was officially released on YouTube, extending its reach to the wider community.
