5th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2025

Introduction

The Department of Pharmacology, BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagarur, successfully concluded the 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2025 with its Grand Finale on 23rd September at the MEU Hall. The celebrations, held from 17th–23rd September, reflected the year’s theme “Your Safety, Just a Click Away: Report to PvPI”, highlighting the importance of medicine safety and adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting.

Programme Proceedings

The Finale began with blessings from the revered Swamijis, followed by an invocation by Dr. Ankitha L and a warm welcome address by Dr. Shashikala M. The dignitaries inaugurated the event by watering the Tulsi plant and offering floral tributes.

Key addresses were delivered by Dr. Sheshagiri Rao (In-charge Chief of Hospital) and Dr. Murali B. M. (Professor & Head, Pathology), who emphasized the critical role of pharmacovigilance in ensuring patient safety. A video of a public awareness skit performed earlier at Solur was screened, reinforcing the community’s role in safe medicine practices.

A live demonstration on ADR reporting via the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring System (ADRMS) website of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) was conducted by Dr. Shubha Praveen, HOD of Pharmacology, assisted by Dr. Ankitha L. This was followed by PharmaTwisters—an interactive session combining quiz rounds and dumb charades to make learning engaging and fun.

Week-long Activities (17th–23rd September)

  • Training for nursing staff – Dr. Santhosh R

  • Public awareness sessions at Solur – Dr. Malini S

  • Awareness talks for PUC students – Dr. Ankitha L

  • Sensitization of 2nd-year Ayurvedic students – Dr. Shashikala M

  • Community skit at Solur Outreach Clinic – Clinical Pharmacy Interns

Competitions such as Poem Writing, Digital Rangoli, and the Daily ADR Challenge saw enthusiastic multidisciplinary participation. Winners included:

  • Dr. Bhoomika (Community Medicine)

  • Dr. Roopashree (Pathology)

  • Dr. Pooja Raikar (Psychiatry)

  • Dr. Sapna J (Dentistry)

Specially designed mouse pads with the event theme were awarded as prizes.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Darsana S Kumar, appreciating the contributions of dignitaries, faculty, students, and participants.

Conclusion

The 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week Finale at BGS MCH successfully met its objectives of strengthening medicine safety, promoting ADR reporting, and engaging both healthcare professionals and the community. The theme “Your Safety, Just a Click Away: Report to PvPI” was disseminated widely, inspiring participants to integrate pharmacovigilance into daily clinical practice.

This initiative aligns with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, promoting safer healthcare for all.
