Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for Faculties at BGS Medical College and Hospital

Introduction

A Basic Life Support (BLS) Training Programme was organized on 12th September 2025 at the Skills and Simulation Lab, BGS MCH, Nagarur, to equip faculty members with essential life-saving skills. The training was conducted for faculties from multiple departments including OBG, Pediatrics, Surgery, Orthopedics, General Medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Community Medicine, Physiology, Pathology, Anatomy, Physiotherapy, and Ayurveda.

The objective of the program was to strengthen the capacity of teaching faculty to respond effectively during medical emergencies, thereby ensuring improved patient safety and outcomes.

Program Overview

The training was designed to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skill-building. Sessions were delivered by BLS-certified instructors from the Skills and Simulation Lab.

Program Highlights

  • Theoretical Session: Introduction to the principles of BLS, early recognition of cardiac arrest, and CPR guidelines.

  • Practical Session: Hands-on demonstrations on manikins, focusing on effective chest compressions, rescue breathing, and AED use.

  • Simulation-Based Training: Participants engaged in mock emergency scenarios to apply BLS techniques in real-time situations.

  • Feedback & Reflection: Faculty participants shared positive feedback, emphasizing the relevance, effectiveness, and confidence gained through the training.

  • Enhanced knowledge and skill acquisition among participating faculty.

  • Improved confidence in performing CPR and using AEDs.

  • Reinforcement of the importance of timely intervention during cardiac emergencies.

Conclusion & Way Forward

The BLS Training Programme was highly successful in strengthening the life-saving competencies of faculty across departments. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Renuka R and the Skills and Simulation Lab instructors, the program provided a comprehensive, practical, and impactful learning experience.
