Basic Course in Medical Education Workshop (BCME) conducted at BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagarur, Bengaluru
Introduction
The Second Basic Course in Medical Education workshop was conducted at BGS MCH from 20th January 2026 to 22nd January 2026. The event was held with the divine blessings of Paramapoojya Jagadguru Padmabhushana Puraskrutha Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji and Paramapoojya Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, organized by the Medical Education Unit under the chairmanship of Dean Dr K.S Gangadhara and executed by MEU Coordinator Dr. Satish S. Patil along with the members of Medical Education Unit and Curriculum Committee. This structured program aimed to enhance the teaching, learning, and assessment skills of medical faculty, aligning with the Competency-Based Medical Education framework prescribed by the National Medical Commission.

The mandatory National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) was successfully conducted at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur, from the 20th January 2026 to 22nd January 2026.
The three-day workshop was organized by the Medical Education Unit under the chairmanship of Dean Dr K.S Gangadhara and executed by MEU Coordinator Dr. Satish S. Patil along with the members of Medical Education Unit and Curriculum Committee.
The event was observed by the NMC’s Coordinator Dr Natesh Prabhu R, Professor, Department of Critical Care Medicine, St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru.
This structured program aimed to enhance the teaching, learning, and assessment skills of medical faculty, aligning with the Competency-Based Medical Education framework prescribed by the National Medical Commission.
Day 1 began with an introduction and group dynamics session by Dr. Venkatesh P, setting an interactive tone for the workshop where participants got to know each other through fun team-building activity of crossing the river.
Sessions by Dr. Murali B.M., Dr. Sangeetha S, Dr. Spoorthy S, and Dr. Jyothi S explored the learning process, defining learning objectives, and teaching-learning methods including interactive and small group teaching. The day concluded with insightful discussions on assessment principles by Dr. Satish Patil and internal assessment methods led by Dr. Sandeep T.
Day 2 focused on advanced teaching and assessment strategies. Dr. Satish S. Patil opened with a session on implementing AETCOM competencies, followed by Dr. Kruttika Naik on self-directed learning.
An engaging session on effective clinical and practical skill teaching was conducted by Dr. K S Gangadhara, Dr. Satish S. Patil, and Dr. Gireesh P.
Post-lunch, Dr. Sangeetha S guided participants on aligning teaching-learning methods with competencies, and the day concluded with an interactive workshop on blueprinting and question paper setting led by Dr. Shubha Praveen and Dr. Pooja Raikar.
Day 3 emphasized assessment and mentoring in medical education. The day began with Dr. Jyothi S leading a session on lesson planning, followed by skill assessment demonstrations by Dr. Dhanush H and Dr. Pooja R. Raikar.
Dr. Gireesh P highlighted academic growth and networking opportunities, while Dr. Sandyarani D.C. discussed aligning assessments with competencies. The afternoon sessions featured mentoring by Dr. Satish S. Patil, and drafting of competency-based time table by Dr. Suma M.P. The program concluded with post-test and reflective feedback from all faculty members with most participants praising the sessions for being interactive, highly informative and innovative with importance to practical aspects of assessment and teaching techniques being given, marking the successful completion of the Basic Course in Medical Education.
