BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy Enhances Clinical Communication Through Simulated Role Play Activity
The BGS Vijnatham Institute of Physiotherapy recently organized a significant pedagogical initiative titled Communicate to Care: Building Effective Interactive Skills. Held on August 3, 2026, at Lecture Hall 2, BGSVIPT , ACU Bengaluru Campus, Nagaruru, the event focused on the critical role of interpersonal communication within the clinical environment. The session was specifically designed for undergraduate physiotherapy students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical patient care, ensuring they develop the soft skills necessary for professional success.
The core of the program featured a sophisticated role play activity involving second year Bachelor of Physiotherapy students. This simulated clinical exercise allowed participants to engage in realistic patient therapist scenarios, focusing on the nuances of professional interaction. Under the guidance of faculty coordinators Dr. GunaRathna K and Dr. Vaishnavi Puranik, students practiced navigating complex interpersonal dynamics, emphasizing the importance of empathy, active listening, and clear articulation of medical procedures.
During the demonstrations, students including Sneha S J, Dinshad T, CB Merin, and Sharon Abrahm presented various clinical communication scenarios. These presentations highlighted the integration of verbal and non verbal communication techniques essential for building rapport and establishing trust with patients. The exercise also required students to explain assessment and treatment protocols in a manner that was both accessible and reassuring to patients and their caregivers, reflecting the high standards of professional conduct expected in the healthcare industry.
The event saw active participation from both first year and second year physiotherapy students, fostering a collaborative learning atmosphere. By participating in these simulated interactions, students were able to refine their ability to communicate confidently and compassionately.
