Introduction
The Department of Ophthalmology, BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur, successfully conducted a General Eye Camp on 23 April 2026 at Indira Nagar, Nelamangala. This community outreach programme was organised as part of the institution’s ongoing commitment to extend accessible and quality eye care services to rural and underserved populations. The initiative aimed at early detection, prevention, and management of common ocular conditions, thereby contributing to the reduction of avoidable visual impairment in the community.
Event Proceedings
The eye camp commenced under the guidance of Dr. Yashaswini, with active support from Staff Nurse Chandana and the Department of Ophthalmology team. The programme was structured to ensure systematic evaluation of patients across different age groups.
Comprehensive ophthalmic screenings were conducted, including:
- Vision testing for detection of refractive errors in paediatric and geriatric patients
- Cataract screening for early identification of cases requiring surgical intervention
- Assessment and management of minor ocular complaints
Patients presenting with simple eye conditions were provided with appropriate medical management, including the distribution of prescribed eye drops for symptomatic relief. Throughout the camp, the medical team ensured smooth patient flow and maintained high standards of clinical care and documentation.
Key Highlights
- Extensive community participation from Indira Nagar and surrounding rural areas
- Early detection of refractive errors and cataract-related visual impairment
