With the divine blessings of Parama Poojya Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, the World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week 2024 was celebrated with great enthusiasm from November 19th to 21st at BGS Medical College Hospital. The Chief of the Hospital shared his insights on how the judicious use of antibiotics can effectively delay the
emergence of resistance.
As a part of the awareness campaign addressing multiple drivers of resistance, informational pamphlets promoting the rational use of antibiotics and strategies to prevent misuse were distributed to the general public and community pharmacists throughout the week. A variety of engaging educational programs, designed as ‘fun in learning’ activities were conducted. Treasure Hunt finding the bugs was organized for nursing staff and Poster competition on integrating Ayurveda in addressing the challenges of AMR was held on 20th of November for Ayurveda interns to foster a collective commitment in addressing AMR through knowledge-sharing and advocacy.
The Department of Microbiology at BGS MCH played a pivotal role in organizing Antibiotic Stewardship implementation activities- Clinical Case discussions by Dr. Sandeep, Associate Professor for practicing clinicians on 21st of November and Dr. Suresh Gogi, Professor, educating the Ayurveda students on preventing the misuse of antibiotics through an enriching seminar were the highlights of the day. These initiatives emphasized the roles and responsibilities of every individual in the fight against Anti-Microbial Resistance.
