World Oral Health Day 2026 at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagaruru

Introduction

The Department of Dentistry, BGS Medical College and Hospital, organized a program on the occasion of World Oral Health Day, which is celebrated annually on March 20 as per the guidelines of the FDI World Dental Federation.

The event was celebrated in advance on 18th March 2026 as part of a week-long awareness initiative. In addition, digital posters highlighting the importance of oral health and maintenance of oral hygiene were shared with the general public from 16th March to 22nd March 2026.

The program aimed to create awareness about the importance of oral hygiene among patients and healthcare professionals, particularly nursing staff, and to emphasize the role of preventive oral care in improving overall health outcomes.

Event Proceedings

The Department of Dentistry, BGS Medical College and Hospital, conducted a series of activities as part of the Oral Health Day celebration.

The program commenced with the distribution of oral hygiene kits to patients across all wards of the hospital, with the aim of promoting awareness regarding daily oral care practices among inpatients. This initiative served as an effective step toward encouraging better oral hygiene habits and preventive care.

The event was conducted in the esteemed presence of Dr. Krishnamurthy VR, Chief of Hospital, along with the active participation of all members of the department of Dentistry under the guidance of the Head of Department, Dr. Sapna Jyoti. The program was further strenghtened by the support of the Dean and Prinicipal, Dr. K.S. Gangadhara and was efficiently coordinated with the assistance of Nursing Superintendent Mr. Anand.

Following this, an educational session was conducted for nursing staff by Dr. Bindushree RV, The session was titled “Oral Hygiene Awareness Talk.”

The lecture focused on educating nurses about:

  • The importance of maintaining good oral hygiene in overall health
  • Methods and tools for effective oral hygiene maintenance
  • Oral care practices for ward and ICU patients
  • The role of nurses in encouraging patients to maintain oral hygiene
  • Special considerations for maintaining oral hygiene in critically ill patients

The session aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of nursing staff in delivering proper oral care and promoting oral hygiene among patients.
