Academic Talk on University Rubrics and Outcome-Based Medical Education by the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Adichunchanagiri University

Introduction

As part of a visionary academic initiative of the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Adichunchanagiri University, BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagarur, hosted a BI-Annual Academic Talk on Thursday, 29 January 2026, at 1:00 PM in Lecture Hall–2, New Building. The BI-Annual Talk was organized with the objective of strengthening university academic frameworks and enhancing the quality of medical education through structured teaching–learning and robust assessment practices. The session addressed two key themes of contemporary relevance:

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the Application of Miller’s Method in Medical Teaching and Assessment

The academic session commenced with a formal welcome to the gathering of faculty members and senior residents. The distinguished speaker for the session was Col. (Hon. Retd.) Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Adichunchanagiri University. Dr. K. S. Gangadhara, Dean & Principal, BGS Medical College & Hospital, formally introduced the Honourable Vice Chancellor to the gathering, highlighting his illustrious academic career, exemplary leadership roles, and significant contributions to higher education and national educational policy.
Key Highlights
The first segment of the BI-Annual Talk, titled “University Rubrics and the Way Forward,” focused on university-level academic governance, evaluation rubrics, quality benchmarks, and strategic directions for strengthening institutional academic standards.
The second segment, “Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the Application of Miller’s Method in Medical Teaching and Assessment,” emphasized competency-based medical education, effective assessment strategies, and the practical application of Miller’s Pyramid in medical teaching and assessment.
The session provided clarity on aligning teaching–learning and assessment practices with university regulations, accreditation requirements, and national educational reforms, including NEP 2020. Faculty members and senior residents actively participated in the session, reflecting strong academic engagement and a keen interest in adopting outcome-based and competency-driven teaching methodologies.

Conclusion

The BI-Annual Academic Talk proved to be highly insightful and motivating for the faculty members. The sessions not only enhanced understanding of university rubrics and academic governance but also inspired educators to reflect upon and strengthen their own teaching and assessment practices in line with outcome-based medical education.
