Janya siri from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology on 22nd August 2025

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, BGS Medical College and Research Centre, organized the Janya Siri Seemantha programme on 22nd August 2025 with great enthusiasm and reverence. The event aimed at celebrating motherhood, blessing expectant mothers, and spreading awareness on maternal health and welfare facilities available at the institution.

The programme commenced with the release of a special video presentation, which beautifully depicted the journey of mothers from the time of their antenatal registration until discharge from the hospital. The video highlighted the seamless coordination and contributions of various departments in ensuring safe motherhood — beginning with the Department of Community Medicine for outreach and awareness, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for expert antenatal and delivery care, the Department of Anaesthesiology for their role in pain relief and operative procedures, and the Department of Radiology for essential diagnostic support. The video set an informative and inspiring tone for the event, showcasing the holistic care extended to mothers at BGS MCH.

Following this, a warm welcome was extended by Dr. Renuka, Professor and Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology, who skillfully anchored the event. The formal inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the distinguished chief patrons.Dr. Gangadhar, Dean of BGS MCH; Dr. Krishnamurthy, Medical Superintendent of BGS MCH; and Dr. Pradeep, Resident Medical Officer of BGS MCH. Their presence added grace and significance to the occasion.

An invocation song was then rendered melodiously by Dr. Sindhu, Assistant Professor from the Department of Community Medicine, and Dr. Aditi, Senior Resident from the Department of Paediatrics, setting a divine tone for the day’s proceedings.

The chief patrons addressed the gathering of expectant mothers, their families, and faculty members. Dr. Gangadhar, in his speech, emphasized the importance of maternal care and spoke about the antenatal journey, guiding mothers on how to nurture themselves during this crucial phase. Dr. Krishnamurthy elaborated on the state-of-the-art facilities available at BGS MCH for safe and effective maternal care. Dr. Pradeep further highlighted the availability of subsidized services for registered mothers, ensuring that quality care is accessible and affordable for all.

A unique and heartwarming part of the event was the Taambula Arpane, where all three chief patrons along with their families offered their blessings and good wishes to the expectant mothers. This was followed by the traditional Seemantha ceremony, performed by the faculty members of the institution, symbolizing community support and celebration of motherhood.

The programme witnessed an overwhelming response with a participation of 217 expectant mothers, each of whom received Seemantha on this special day. The event not only reinforced cultural values but also created awareness about maternal health and the support systems provided by BGS MCH.

The proceedings concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Harshitha, Assistant Professor from the Department of Radiology, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, participants, and organizing team for making the event a grand success.

The Janya Siri Seemantha programme thus stood as a remarkable blend of tradition, health awareness, and community bonding, reflecting the commitment of BGS Medical College and Research Centre towards the well-being of mothers and families.
