“Think Pink & Stain Smart” – International Pathology Day 2025 at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur
Introduction
The Department of Pathology, BGS Medical College & Hospital, Nagarur, celebrated International Pathology Day on 14th November 2025 by organizing a series of academic and student-engagement events including a Guest Lecture, Undergraduate Quiz Competition, and E-Poster Competition. The celebration aimed to deepen students’ understanding of pathology and highlight its crucial role in medical science, aligning with SDG 4 – Quality Education, which promotes inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Event Proceedings
The programme commenced with an Inaugural Address by Dr. K. S. Gangadhara, Dean-cum-Principal, who emphasized the significance of pathology in medical education and clinical practice. This was followed by a welcome note from Dr. Murali B. M., Professor & Head, Department of Pathology, who outlined the purpose of observing International Pathology Day and its relevance to budding medical professionals.
Dr. Dayananda S. Biligi, Dean of Medical Faculty at RGUHS and Professor, BMCRI, graced the event as the Guest of Honour. He was introduced by Dr. Balu Sadasivan, Professor of Pathology.
Dr. Dayananda delivered an engaging and insightful lecture titled “Pathology – The Science Behind Disease”. Through mythological analogies and real-life clinical case scenarios, he simplified complex pathology concepts and emphasized the foundational role of pathology in understanding diseases. His session was well-received by the audience comprising MBBS and Allied Health Science students, and faculty members.
The Preliminary Round of the Undergraduate Quiz was held earlier on 10th November 2025, with 17 participating teams. Four teams qualified for the Final Round, which took place immediately after the guest lecture.
An E-Poster Competition on the theme “Colourful World of Pathology” was also conducted for 3rd semester Allied Health Science students, showcasing creativity and scientific understanding.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, students, organizing committee members, and the management for their enthusiastic participation and support.
