An Adolescent School Health Program was successfully conducted on 18th December 2025 by the Department of Paediatrics and Department of Community Medicine, BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur, in collaboration with BAHA, at Jindal High School. The program was organized with the objective of promoting adolescent health, early identification of health-related issues, and creating awareness regarding the harmful effects of tobacco consumption among high school students.

Adolescence is a critical phase of growth and development characterized by significant physical, psychological, and behavioral changes. Understanding the importance of preventive healthcare and health education during this stage, the departments initiated this outreach program to address the health needs of adolescents and encourage healthy lifestyle practices.

The program began with a comprehensive health check-up for high school students. A team of experienced doctors including Dr. Sindhu, Dr. Babu Dileep, Dr. Nagaraj, Dr. Vidya, and Dr. Gayathri actively participated in the screening process. The medical examination included general physical assessment, measurement of height and weight, evaluation of nutritional status, and screening for common adolescent health problems such as anemia, vision defects, and other minor ailments. Students requiring further medical attention were appropriately counseled and referred for follow-up care.

Following the health check-up, a health education session on tobacco consumption was conducted. The session focused on educating students about the various forms of tobacco use and their harmful effects on physical and mental health. The speakers highlighted the short-term and long-term consequences of tobacco use, including respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular diseases, oral cancers, and addiction-related issues. Emphasis was also placed on the impact of tobacco on academic performance, social life, and overall quality of life.

The session was interactive, with active participation from students through discussions and question-and-answer segments. Real-life examples were used to reinforce key messages and motivate students to adopt healthy behaviors and resist peer pressure related to tobacco use.

The school authorities and teachers extended full cooperation throughout the program, ensuring smooth coordination and active student participation. They expressed appreciation for the initiative and emphasized the importance of regular health screening and preventive education in schools.

In conclusion, the Adolescent School Health Program conducted on 18/12/2025 was successful in meeting its objectives. It helped in early identification of health issues among students and significantly contributed to raising awareness about the dangers of tobacco consumption. Such community-oriented programs strengthen the collaboration between medical institutions and schools and play a vital role in promoting adolescent health and well-being.
