Skills and Simulation Lab Concludes Faculty Development Program on Essentials of Simulation

Introduction

The Skills and Simulation Lab, BGS Medical College & Hospital organized a two-day faculty development programme titled “Essentials of Simulation” on 19th and 20th May 2026 at the MEU Hall, Nagarur. The programme was designed to equip healthcare educators with the knowledge, skills, and tools required to design and deliver high-impact simulation-based learning experiences.

Grounded in contemporary simulation science and evidence-based educational frameworks, the workshop aimed to strengthen competency in simulation pedagogy and promote technology-enhanced clinical training across disciplines.

Event Proceedings

The programme brought together faculty members from multiple clinical and allied health disciplines, creating a strong platform for interprofessional learning. Participants included faculty from Anaesthesiology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medicine, Community Medicine, as well as representatives from the Nursing College and Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technicians.

The sessions focused on core principles of simulation-based education, including scenario design, pre-briefing techniques, debriefing methodologies, and the importance of psychological safety in experiential learning environments. The structured sessions combined theoretical inputs with practical demonstrations, ensuring a balanced learning experience.

A key feature of the workshop was hands-on training using advanced simulation technology, where participants were introduced to Maestro simulation software. This enabled faculty members to translate clinical cases into immersive, technology-enabled learning modules, thereby enhancing their ability to replicate real-world clinical situations for teaching purposes.

Key Highlights

  • Comprehensive coverage of simulation-based education principles aligned with modern medical teaching frameworks.
  • Hands-on training in scenario development using Maestro simulation software.
  • Emphasis on psychological safety and structured debriefing techniques.
  • Strong interdisciplinary participation from medical, nursing, and allied health professionals.
  • Promotion of collaborative and experiential learning across healthcare disciplines.

Conclusion

The workshop concluded successfully with active participation and positive feedback from all attendees. It reinforced the institution’s commitment to advancing medical education through innovative teaching methodologies and simulation-based training.

The Skills and Simulation Lab, BGS Medical College & Hospital continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing faculty development and strengthening competency-based medical education.
