BGS Medical College & Hospital Conducts Comprehensive Women’s Health and Cancer Screening Camp in Solluru
The Department of Community Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully organized a comprehensive Women Health Outreach Clinic on June 23, 2026. Held at the Solluru Outreach Clinic, the initiative was designed to bridge the gap in preventive healthcare by providing free health assessments and critical cancer screenings to women in the local community. Through this collaborative effort, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility and the advancement of public health through direct community engagement.
The program began with an intensive sensitization and awareness session led by medical experts. Participants received education on vital topics including maternal health, the necessity of regular medical check ups, and early detection strategies for chronic illnesses. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of cervical cancer screening and the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices to mitigate long term health risks. Dr. Satish, Professor of Community Medicine, alongside Mrs. Anitha H S, President of Sri Ankanatheswara Stree Shakthi Mahila Swasahaya Sangha, addressed the gathering to encourage proactive participation in available healthcare services.
During the clinical phase of the outreach, thirty one women underwent a series of rigorous health screenings. The medical team conducted assessments of body mass index, blood pressure monitoring, and Random Blood Sugar testing. Additionally, hemoglobin estimation and ECG examinations were provided to evaluate cardiovascular and nutritional status. A significant component of the camp involved specialized screenings, including breast examinations and the collection of sixteen Pap smear samples for cervical cancer screening, ensuring that high risk conditions could be identified and managed early.
In addition to the diagnostic services, the clinic provided immediate therapeutic support by distributing free medications to beneficiaries based on their individual medical assessments. Beyond physical evaluations, every participant received personalized health counseling and education to empower them with the knowledge required for sustained well being. This holistic approach ensured that the clinical interventions were supported by long term behavioral guidance.
The success of the event was made possible through the coordinated efforts of faculty, residents, interns, and nursing staff from both participating departments. Notable contributors included Dr. Preeti R, Dr. Nanditha, and Dr. Spoorthi, whose clinical expertise was instrumental in the execution of the camp. The institution extends its sincere gratitude to the Dean, the leadership of the involved departments, and the various support teams including the Digital Health and PRO units for their unwavering commitment to community service and the successful delivery of essential healthcare to the Solur region.
