Awareness and Interactive Talk on Tobacco Use and Its Harmful Effects Observance of World No Tobacco Day 2025
Introduction
As part of the observance of World No Tobacco Day 2025, the Department of Community Medicine, BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagarur, organized an Awareness and Interactive Talk on 31st May 2025 at BGS World School, Nagarur, Nelamangala. The outreach activity aimed to create awareness among school students regarding the harmful effects of tobacco consumption on human health and the environment, while encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices from a young age.
Event Proceedings
The awareness session was conducted by Dr. Bhoomika N, Senior Resident, Department of Community Medicine, and Dr. Suresh Gogi, Professor, Department of Microbiology.
Dr. Bhoomika N addressed the students on the various forms of tobacco and elaborated on the serious health hazards associated with tobacco use, including cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory disorders. She also emphasized the ill effects of passive smoking. Additionally, the session highlighted the environmental consequences of tobacco cultivation and waste, such as deforestation, pollution, and land degradation. The presentation was supplemented with video demonstrations to enhance understanding.
Dr. Suresh Gogi elaborated on the increased risk of communicable and non-communicable diseases associated with tobacco consumption. He emphasized the importance of early prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, and awareness among children and adolescents to prevent future health complications.
The session was conducted in an interactive and student-friendly manner using simple language, visual aids, pictures, and videos, which encouraged active participation and engagement from the students.
